Glebe Youth Service

GYS hopes to launch a new website in 2013.

About
Glebe Youth Service Inc is a non-government youth service dedicated to developing in young people a sense of dignity and personal responsibility to achieve their goals and contribute to their community. We support young people aged 12 to 24-years-old who live, work, study or play in the Glebe area.

The service offers a range of programs and activities including drop-in (mixed, GirlZone and BoyZone), casework, a school holiday program and After Dark, which provides a safe space on Friday and Saturday nights for young people to engage in recreational and educational activities. We also partner with other organisations to deliver services; for example, we partner with a range of agencies to deliver the Glebe Education Pathways Project.

The service is funded by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services and City of Sydney. Other agencies have provided small grants for a range of purposes. We also get support from the Glebe community in the form of volunteers and donations.

At the service we expect to be able to maintain a comfortable and safe environment for all young people. Violence and threats are not allowed and those visibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol are asked to leave. We view the service as an oasis from the many problems that beset young people in Glebe. Our goal is to provide young people with the skills and information they need to move forward in a positive way.

In the meantime, you can download a copy of our 2010/11 annual report or an overview of our strategic plan for more information.
