GLEBE
YOUTH SERVICE
Glebe
Youth Service is a non-government youth service dedicated to the
recreation and support of young people who live, work, study or play in
the Glebe area. Young people aged 12 to 24 are welcomed into the
service to have fun, get to know our workers and get assistance with
any issue that they have concerns about.
The service is funded by the Department of
Community Services and City
of Sydney. Other agencies have provided small grants for a range of
purposes. We also get support from the Glebe community in the form of
volunteers and donations.
At the service we expect to be able to maintain a
comfortable and safe
environment for all young people. Violence and threats are not allowed
and those visibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol are asked to
leave. We view the service as an oasis from the many problems that
beset the disadvantaged in Glebe.
The majority of young people that attend the
service are from the Glebe
Housing Estate. Most are Aboriginal and many come from backgrounds that
have left them with serious disadvantage. Our goal is to provide them
with the skills and information they need to move forward in a positive
way.
